Brauhaus In der Cronen
The brewery "In der Cronen" (which is now called "Brauhaus Zur Krone") is a listed half-timbered house on Main Street No. 78 in the city center of the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district.
Building history and architecture
Located on the long-distance trade route Cologne-Jülich-Aachen / Antwerp, Bergheim has always been a popular resting place for travelers, which is why inns took on an important role early on. One example is today's “Brauhaus Zur Krone”, which can look back on 400 years of tradition. As early as 1607/08, an inn "In der Cronen" was mentioned in the Bergheim hospital bill. It should be the forerunner of today's “Brauhaus Zur Krone”. In the middle of the 19th century, Karl Lippert took over the restaurant "Zur Krone". He had moved from Cologne, married a woman from Bergheim in 1844 and worked as a postilion in Bergheim. However, in 1851 he is referred to as the host.
In 1928 the inn was rebuilt. The half-timbering that had previously been plastered was exposed again and the stables and coach houses at the rear were converted into a large hall, which was used by the Bergheimers as a popular dance hall. Guest rooms were built in the old dance hall on the 1st floor. The current owner, Karl Lippert, took over the inn from his parents in 1945. In 1953 he had the old half-timbered structure on the first floor replaced with stone walls and a bowling alley built in the house. In 1965 the neighboring house was bought and integrated into the restaurant.
Lippertgasse runs next to the “Brauhaus Zur Krone” inn. The Mühlenerft used to flow here through the middle of Bergheim. Originally a bridge spanned the river. Around 1900 it was allowed to flow underground through a pipe. In 1928, the previously free-flowing Mühlenerft in Lippertgasse was also piped.
Todays use
The "Brauhaus Zur Krone" is still run today as a brewery, restaurant and also as a hotel with "bed + bike" operation. The Lippert family is still the owner today.
