Breitling Navitimer

The watch model Navitimer was first presented to the public by Breitling in 1952 .
It was a further development of the first Chronomat model.
It is a pilot's watch with a chronograph and an additional navigation instrument in the rotating bezel, which was then often used in aviation.
With this slide rule arranged in a circle in the bezel , a wide variety of rule-of-three calculations and conversions can be carried out.
For example, fuel consumption, climb and descent rates, unit conversions, multiplication and division are possible.

history

Since the publication of the first Navitimer 806 in 1952, there have been other models with newer movements, designs or improvements in subsequent years. The following table lists the model history of some Navitimer references.
Furthermore, there were always special models, limited editions (e.g. Snowbird, Top Gun ) or model variants specially produced for organizations (e.g. AOPA, Patrouille de France, Iraqi Air Force ).
Since 1999, all Breitling mechanical movements have been subjected to the COSC chronometer test , including the Navitimer model.

1952	Navitimer 806, 806-36 and 806 E	Hand-wound chronographs were always installed. The first models went on sale in 1954, mainly with the column-wheel chronograph Venus 178 . For a short time the watch was also equipped with the Valjoux 72 movement. In 1971 the model 806-36 with the Valjoux 7736 caliber was also installed. Parallel and v. a. Towards the end of production, the 806 E model with changing calibers and a smaller crown was also produced. The clocks had different logos on the dial ( AOPA , italic B with wings, Breitling & wings, Twin Planes ...)
1962	Navitimer 809 Cosmonaute	This model was developed in 1962 and shows the 24 hours of a day on a dial circle, i.e. H. it has a 24 instead of the usual 12 hour display. It was originally developed for space, as astronauts lose track of time in space. This arrangement of the hours prevents confusion between noon and midnight. Astronaut Scott Carpenter wore the Breitling Cosmonaute in the Aurora 7 space capsule on May 24, 1962 .
1967	Navitimer 7806, 7806-S, 816 & 816-72	From 1967, these models also had a date display and the Valjoux 7740 caliber. From 1968 a larger 48mm case was offered in the models 816 & 816-72.
1968	Navitimer 1806	More modern Chrono-Matic model with Breitling type 11 automatic caliber. From 1971 with "type 12" movement.
1973	Navitimer 8806	Classic Chrono-Matic model with Breitling type 12 automatic caliber. From 1971 with "type 12" movement.
1973	Navitimer 9106 LED & 9406 LCD	From 1973 a quartz movement with an LED display was offered. The display lit up briefly at the push of a button. Later (from 1974) LCD displays and a smaller housing were used. This was also produced until 1979 and the closure of the Breitling manufacture.
1986	Navitimer 81600, 81610	After the takeover of Breitling, a new Navitimer model with Lemania 1872 caliber was not offered again until 1986 . The version with Valjoux 7750 automatic caliber followed later .
1991	Old Navitimer	With Breitling type 13 automatic caliber. Date display at 3 o'clock, totalizers at 12, 9 and 6 o'clock positions. Mineral glass. Was produced until 1993, see Old Navitimer II from 1993.
1992	Navitimer 92	Smaller version with Breitling type 30 caliber.
1993	Old Navitimer II	Sapphire crystal and improved water resistance (3bar). With Breitling type 13 automatic caliber. Date display at 3 o'clock, totalizers at 12, 9 and 6 o'clock. Was manufactured until 2002.
1997	Navitimer Montbrillant	Breitling type 41 automatic caliber. From 1999 also with COSC certification. Partly later with sapphire crystal. Different designs and models (stainless steel or gold case, etc.). 3bar waterproof.
2001	Navitimer Heritage	Breitling type 35 automatic caliber. COSC certification. Sapphire crystal. 43mm stainless steel case. 3bar waterproof.
2002	Navitimer 50th Anniversary	For the 50th anniversary of the Navitimer with built-in Breitling type 41 caliber. COSC certification. Sapphire crystal. " Twin-Jets " logo on the dial like the original Navitimer models 806, 806-36 & 806-E from 1964.
2002	Navitimer Olympus	Breitling type 19 automatic caliber with perpetual calendar (date, weekday, month, moon phase). COSC certification. Sapphire crystal. Stainless steel or red gold case. 3bar waterproof. Was manufactured until around 2005.
2002	Navitimer Montbrillant Datora	Breitling type 21 automatic caliber with day, date and month display. COSC certification. Sapphire crystal. 43mm stainless steel case. 3bar waterproof.
2003	Navitimer "2003"	Breitling type 23 caliber installed. Totalizers again at 9, 6 and 3 o'clock, date display between 4 and 5 o'clock.
2005	Navitimer Montbrillant Olympus	Breitling type 19 automatic caliber with perpetual calendar (date, weekday, month, moon phase). COSC certification. Sapphire crystal. Pearl bezel, stainless steel or rose gold case, 42mm diameter. 3bar waterproof.
2006	Navitimer World	Breitling 24 caliber (automatic) installed. GMT hands, date display, totalizers at 12, 9 and 6 o'clock. Steel, 18k gold or white gold cases.
2009	Navitimer 01	Fully "in-house" Breitling 01 caliber with chronometer certification.
2012	Navitimer 60th Anniversary	Limited version to 500 pieces, blue dial.
2014	Navitimer 01 (46mm and 48mm GMT)	Enlarged case diameter, GMT version also available.
