Bretha Nemed
Bretha Nemed [ 'bʴrʴeθa' Nʴevʴeð ] are two collections of legal texts in the Old Irish language . In particular, the rights and obligations of certain groups, e.g. B. the poet and bard are listed therein.
The first such records can be found in Munster in the south of Ireland in some cases as early as the 7th century . The texts were written by the once famous legal “school” Bretha Nemed , which gave the collective writings their name. Two rudimentary records of it are still preserved today: the younger Bretha Nemed Déidenach ("the last Bretha Nemed"), written down by Dubhaltach Mac Fhirbhisigh in the 17th century (time uncertain), today kept in Trinity College in Dublin (MS 1317 H.2.15 B) and the older Bretha Nemed Toísech ("the first Bretha Nemed"), kept in the British Library in London (MS Nero A 7).
