Brian Doerksen (* 1965 ) is a Canadian worship musician.

Life

Brian Doerksen comes from a Mennonite family. After serving with Youth with a Mission (including in Mexico ) from 1985 to 1989 , he pastored Canada's first Vineyard Church. At this time, the recordings for various music albums began, in which Doerksen appeared among other things as a songwriter. I lift my eyes up became very famous . In 1994 he published the musical Father's House , which was initially very successful, but two years later became a financial disaster for the Doerksen family - they lost everything they had pledged and were forced to relocate to England. At this time, one of Brian Doerksen's most famous songs was written: Come, now is the time . He returned to Canada in 1999 and has lived in Abbotsford (British Columbia) ever since . Since then, several solo albums have been created, from which songs like Hope of the Nations or Hallelujah (Your love is amazing) have found widespread use. In 2006 he performed at Calling All Nations in Berlin. Since September 2014 he has been professor for the Music & Worship Arts Program at Prairie College, Three Hills in Alberta (Canada). Doerksen teaches composition, band leading and takes responsibility for young musicians. Brian Doerksen founded a new ensemble "The SHIYR Poets", with whom he has released three albums in the meantime. These offer a lyrical new setting of the Psalms in English as well as other texts from the "Qumramschriften" (writings from the Dead Sea). With the new solo album "Grateful" (2017) he continues his creative work.

Brian Doerksen is married to Joyce and has six grown children.
