British Approved Name

The British Approved Name , or BAN for short , is an official and public domain name for a medicinal substance or for a combination of medicinal substances according to the British Pharmacopoeia . BAN designations are used particularly in countries of the Commonwealth of Nations , but also beyond. However, BAN names are currently losing importance compared to the International Nonproprietary Name of the World Health Organization . Among other things, this is a result of the adaptation of the British Pharmacopoeia to the names of the European Pharmacopoeia . Regardless of this, in addition to the BAN name “ Adrenalin ” (INN: Epinephrine), the unique fixed drug combination names of the British Approved Name, such as “ Co-Trimoxazole ”, hold their own .
