Broad Band eBook

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Broad Band eBook ( BBeB ) is a family of electronic book file formats developed by Sony and Canon .

construction

With BBeB Xylog XML (LRS), LRF, LRX and MSD there are several variants of the format. BBeB Xylog XML (also known as LRS) is the output format for the remaining variants. It is an XML-based text format that is documented in an open specification; the files have the extension .lrs. The other formats are the final formats ultimately used on the reading devices and are of a proprietary nature, i.e. not disclosed. They are compiled from LRS into a possibly compressed binary data format. LRX (file extension:) .lrxis the variant of LRF (file extension:) , MSD (“D” for English “Dictionary” ) that is also encrypted for DRM purposes and .lrfspecializes in dictionary data.

commitment

For example, “PRS-300 Pocket Edition”, “PRS-505”, “PRS-600 Touch Edition” and “PRS-700” can be displayed. Kovid Goyal has implemented a free converter for LRF . The e-book software Caliber , which he created, is based on this implementation, among many other, including commercial projects .

history

It was developed for Sony's LIBRIé device model and then used for the e-book readers of the Sony reader family. It was the file format of the first mass-available e-book reader in the US, the PRS-505.

Kovid Goyal's free LRF implementation has become widespread and is considered to be superior to the reference tools.

In December 2009, Sony renamed its sales platform for electronic books to the “Reader Store” and switched the entire range to the open EPUB format.
