Foundation and successes

The first records were pressed by Broadway Records around 1921 by Masters of Paramount Records . At the time, the label belonged to the "Bridgeport Die and Machine Company" from Bridgeport , Connecticut . From 1924 recordings of Emerson Records and Banner Records were pressed onto records and sold under their own name.

When the Bridgeport Company went bankrupt and had to close in 1925, Broadway was taken over by the New York Recording Laboratories (NYRL). This company, as well as Paramount Records, belonged to the Wisconsin Chair Company from Port Washington , Wisconsin . From this point on, only Plaza recordings were used, but the quality of the recordings, similar to Paramount, was below the average of the standards of the time. It was during this time that Broadway had its greatest successes.

Takeover by ARC and end

In 1932, Broadway was taken over by the multinational American Record Corporation , ARC Records for short, and a new series of records was introduced (4000 series). Shortly thereafter, the newly launched Decca Records label acquired Broadway and continued to operate the label with moderate success until 1935.
