The Brooklyn Theater before the fire on December 5, 1876
plan

The Brooklyn Theater was a theater building at the intersection of Washington St and Johnson St. It had about 1,000 seats. The opening took place on October 2, 1871.

On the evening of December 5, 1876, the fire broke out. He assumed that a curtain had been lit by a gas lamp. The building was completely destroyed. At first it was believed that everyone in the house made it outside, but this assumption turned out to be wrong. At least 278 people were killed.
