The Broxburn Viaduct is a railway bridge in Scotland . It is on the border of the West Lothian and Edinburgh Council Areas . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A. Another listed railway viaduct, the Almond Valley Viaduct, is located around one kilometer south.

description

The masonry viaduct is about two kilometers east of the center of Broxburn . It was built in 1842 as part of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway . Today the viaduct is used by trains from Glasgow to Edinburgh via the Falkirk Line . The seven- arched arch bridge leads the double-track railway line over the A89 and the Brox Burn brook . The masonry consists of embossed ashlar stones. The middle arch, which spans the A89, was later reinforced with a steel frame. The northernmost arch, on the other hand, was partially closed by masonry, which itself has two arched openings.
