Bruce Campbell (historian)

Bruce Becker Campbell (* 1955 ) is an American historian.

Life and research

Campbell earned a PhD in European History from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1988 . He currently teaches at the College of William & Mary as Associate Professor of German Studies .

His main research interests are state authority, paramilitary organizations, the German youth movement of the first half of the 20th century, and nationalist and war literature.

He particularly emerged with publications about the National Socialist Sturmabteilung (SA) and other paramilitary German organizations between the two world wars, such as the Freikorps Rossbach and the Schilljugend .
