Brotherhood of the Knights of the Blood Sausage

The Brotherhood of the Knights of black pudding (Brotherhood of the Chevaliers du Goute Boudin) is an association of black pudding butchers based in Mortagne-au-Perche in the south of Normandy , famous for its black pudding is known. The knights of the blood sausage have set themselves the goal of defending the reputation and quality of blood sausage in the country - and of all participating countries - and also to contribute to the good reputation of French cuisine .

Every year on the third weekend in March, the brotherhood organizes the world's largest blood sausage competition with mostly 400 to 600 participants - mainly from France, but also from the rest of Europe, for example from Germany , Austria and Switzerland . The jury of the competition consists of members of the brotherhood - with only one butcher in a group of 4 jury members - and awards the “Grand Prix International du Goûte Boudin”.

Three categories are assessed for foreign sausage products:

  • French style black pudding (to be consumed only grilled or fried)
  • traditional German or Austrian blood sausage (such as red sausage, tongue sausage, Thuringian)
  • non-traditional preparation (example: black pudding with chestnuts, lingonberries etc.)
