Thoracic fascia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The thoracic fascia (Latin fascia pectoralis ) is a section of the trunk fascia in anatomy . It separates the superficial from the middle layer of the chest wall . Towards the neck it merges into the superficial cervical fascia , laterally into the axillary fascia and downward into the fascia of the external oblique abdominal muscle .

The pectoral fascia is closely connected to the large pectoral muscle below . It is only loosely connected to the subcutaneous fatty tissue - and thus to the superficial layer of the chest wall.
