A breast ripper (also: Brustkralle , Brustknacker ) is an instrument that was supposedly used for torture . The cold or glowing breast tear is said to have been used to tear out the breasts of women on the way to execution to increase punishment.

The torture method of tearing the chest out is historically proven, e.g. B. it says in the Constitutio Criminalis Theresiana from 1769 that the woman to be executed should "be taken to the usual place of execution, both breasts torn out with red-hot pliers, and then executed with the sword from life to death" . However, there are no reliable historical sources for the use of the devices known today as breast rippers, of which there are a number of images on the Internet, so that, as with the Iron Maiden , there is a possibility that the devices shown are fakes from later times acts. One origin of this torture method is traced back to the martyrdom of Agatha of Catania .
