Brutus (software)

Brutus is the name of a program for the automated trying out ( hacking ) of passwords , especially on remote systems.

By builds Brutus up to 60 simultaneous connections to the destination (for example, a Web server), and tests based on a configurable brute-force attack , a dictionary attack or an "empty" attack possible passwords and user names. In addition to HTTP (Basic Authentication / HTML Form / CGI), FTP , POP3 , SMB , Telnet access or passwords for network shares can also be guessed.

The program itself is freeware and for Windows - the operating system was written.
