buildingSMART International is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organization. It defines the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) exchange format for BIM data exchange in the construction industry .

structure

As an umbrella organization, buildingSMART coordinates the work between the regional associations worldwide. In the German-speaking countries, it is buildingSMART eV This association of companies, educational institutions and private individuals from all areas of construction has set itself the goal of making project management more consistent and effective using efficient methods of integrated information processing, and thus more reliable in terms of quality, deadlines and costs close.

The focus is on Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a planning method based on digital building models. The association designs and certifies standards such as IFC for an open BIM application .

The association (founded as an industrial alliance for interoperability IAI eV) is based in Berlin.

Every year the association organizes a conference in Berlin to present the results of its work to the public. In addition, several BIM user days are organized every year in order to exchange practical experience in using digital building models and to establish a network between users.

Rasso Steinmann is the chairman of the board.
