The Federal Office for Post and Telecommunications ( BAPT ), headquartered in Mainz, was a regulatory authority and predecessor of the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Post (RegTP) .

The task of the Federal Office established in 1990 in the business area of ​​the Federal Ministry for Post and Telecommunications with a total of 55 branch offices in Germany was the approval and licensing of radio and telecommunications systems. The BAPT was transferred to the RegTP on December 31, 1997. The RegTP was renamed the Federal Network Agency on July 13, 2005 .

With the dissolution of the Federal Office for Post and Telecommunications (BAPT) on January 1, 1998, the approval and licensing of radio and telecommunications equipment and facilities was transferred to private facilities; TÜV Bayern was in charge of the approval and took on a large part of the tasks .
