Federal Working Group on Plant Collections

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Federal Working Group on Plant Collections ( BAPS ) was founded in March 2010. It sees itself as an advisory body for the development of a network for plant collections for the purpose of documenting and maintaining plant collections. Connoisseurs, institutions and private plant collectors have come together in the BAPS . The coordination and management takes place under the umbrella of the Deutsche Gartenbau-Gesellschaft 1822 eV (DGG), which also maintains contacts with the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE) and other technical participants.

target

There is a diverse genetic potential of species, varieties and cultivars in the existing collections of ornamental plants. This should be permanently preserved for the current generation and subsequent generations. For this purpose, private and public owners of plant collections are approached to support the preservation of the collections. Conservation strategies are to be developed which offer sustainable protection for plants and plant collections that are worth preserving. Private individuals as well as private and public institutions should be involved to support the project.

Field of activity

The BAPS primarily offers technical and organizational help, e.g. B. by:

  • Advice on the concerns of all those involved in the network
  • Assistance in securing endangered collections which for various reasons can no longer be maintained and preserved
  • Participation and exhibition opportunities for collectors: z. B. BuGa, LaGa, trade fairs, specialty and rarities exchanges, open garden gate days and local festivals
  • Development of documentation standards for the documentation of collections
  • Development of objectives for the recognition of important collections
