Federal Compost Quality Association

The Bundesgütegemeinschaft Kompost e. V. (BGK) is a registered association based in Cologne , which is dedicated to quality assurance for compost and digestate in Germany. As an independent and neutral organization, the Bundesgütegemeinschaft is exclusively committed to and recognized by the principles of the RAL Institute RAL German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labeling .

The BGK is organized through its committees. This includes the board of directors, the federal quality committee, the working groups and the general assembly.

tasks

The task of the BGK is to monitor compliance with the quality regulations set by the RAL Institute when processing organic waste from households, gardens and parks. The BGK's RAL quality assurance aims to ensure that the products obtained from composting and fermentation are used safely .

The Bundesgütegemeinschaft Kompost is responsible for regular quality monitoring ( Gütegemeinschaft ) within the meaning of Section 11 (3 ) of the Organic Waste Ordinance. It meets the requirements for a quality association from the organic waste ordinance .

The BGK provides information materials and work equipment, prepares application recommendations and legal statements and gives implementation instructions for the implementation of the Biowaste Ordinance or Regulation (EC) No. 1774/2002 (so-called EU Hygiene Regulation ).

activities

On maintenance of quality compost 558 plants carry the RAL-GZ 251. The BGK distinguishes fresh compost, finished compost and substrate compost . 130 systems carry the RAL-GZ 245 for the products liquid digestate and solid digestate . The quality assurance with the RAL-GZ 258 takes place in 8 plants with the product AS-Humus . There are further quality assurances for the areas "NawaRo fermentation products", "AS fertilization" and "wood ashes". There are 774 composting and fermentation plants in Germany in RAL quality assurance (as of February 20, 2019).

Recent developments

The BGK prepares the quality assurance for untreated waste for recycling as well as the quality assurance for soil materials.
