The Federal Law on Geoinformation (GeoIG, Geoinformationsgesetz) regulates the legal basis of geoinformation, national surveying , national geology, official surveying, their distribution of tasks and responsibilities in Switzerland . It is designed as framework legislation in the area of ​​geoinformation and supplements the specialist legislation in the areas of land register, planning, construction, the environment, roads, water, agriculture, forest, hunting, fishing, civil protection and many more with general legal provisions on handling geoinformation. In the areas of national surveying, national geology and official surveying, it is itself regarded as specialist legislation in these areas.
