The Federal Association for Reading Promotion is a network of committed reading promoters in German-speaking countries. It has set itself the goal of promoting quality standards and professionalism in promoting reading in German-speaking countries. It also represents the interests of its members in public and supports professional exchange.

Mission statement

In its mission statement defines Bundesverband promote reading , the reading as elemental tool to understand the world and to shape. “Reading” is understood to mean capturing texts and images in all media. The focus is primarily on children and young people. The aim of promoting reading is to improve reading skills , writing skills , literacy skills and media skills. Another important aspect is to experience reading as satisfying and enjoyable. Tolerance and intercultural understanding are further essential guidelines.

Members

Reading sponsors organize themselves in the “Bundesverband Leseförderung”

  • extracurricular child and youth education
  • Book trade

Some members work freelance or in institutions. Others are partner members as associations, initiatives or non-profit organizations. Sustaining members support the association ideally and materially.

activities

The Federal Association for Reading Promotion was founded by committed reading promoters in March 2009 as part of the Leipzig Book Fair. One year after it was founded, it already had 72 members, more than two-thirds of whom were active readers.

First activities are

  • Exchange of creative concepts that serve to promote reading in line with the model
  • Dialogue about quality standards and qualifications
  • Establishing cooperation with advanced training centers and scientific institutions
  • Association's own Internet forum as a constant discussion platform
  • External presentation at trade fairs and congresses, with flyers and a website

Regional groups

In order to promote intensive discussion and exchange among members, the Federal Association for Reading Promotion is divided into regional groups. Currently there are

  • Regional group north (Hamburg area)
  • Regional group east (Berlin area)
  • Regional group west (Dortmund / Mülheim area)
  • Central regional group (Hesse area)
  • Regional group south (Stuttgart / Erlangen area)
