Waistband clasp

A waistband clasp

The waistband clasp is a work tool used by postmen . It is a roughly one meter long, strong thread that is firmly connected at one end to the clasp, a round plastic plate 2.5 centimeters in diameter and six millimeters thick, notched in the outer edge by several millimeters, and to prevent it from fraying , at the loose end is provided with needles made of plastic film like a shoelace .

Before delivery, the postman divides the mail from his district, sorted according to delivery order, into manageable bundles of letters , which he then tied together with waistbands by wrapping the string tightly around the waistband and then fixing it by winding the loose end around the notched plate. Such a waistband is properly tied and can still be opened again with just one pull.

In the meantime, the waistband clasp has largely been replaced by the rubber band .
