history

Initially 16 volumes appeared, including on animals, fossils, stars and other topics (list below). In the series mainly titles from the American book series "Golden Guides" (initially "Golden Nature Guides") were adopted. The author of many of these little books was the New Yorker Herbert Zim , who was able to explain difficult relationships, for example in the field of astronomy, with clear and precise words that are typical of American scientists.

Much of the original simplicity was lost in the German translations by Delphin-Verlag. It is therefore interesting to compare the original English with the corresponding German text passages.

The range was expanded in the late 1970s. The little books were reprinted a few times and were available until the 1980s. The American model was published again in 2001 under the name "Golden Guides by St. Martin's Press".

Some of the volumes in the series were published under license by Buch- und Zeit-Verlag. B. Sterne (special edition 1988; ISBN 3-7735-7880-6 ) and herbs and spices by Julia Morton (special edition 1988, ISBN 3-77357886-5 ).
