The Katsuyama Castle ( Japanese 勝 山城 , Katsuyama-jō ) is located in the district of Katsuyama in the city of Maniwa , Okayama Prefecture . In the Edo period , the Miura resided there from 1764 , who were among the smaller Fudai daimyo with an income of 23,000 koku .
The attachment
The castle was built on the 321 m high Nyōi-zan ( 如意 山 ) and the 261 m high, south of it. Katsuyama created. These mountains and the terrain at their feet were protected in the north, west and south by the Asahi-gawa ( 旭川 ) river . In the Sengoku period , the castle was the seat of the Miura, but the area was also claimed by the Mōri and the Ukita . At the beginning of the Edo period, the area came under the Mori , but when heirs failed, the domain fell to the Bakufu .
In 1764, Miura Akitsugu from the Miura clan came there and rebuilt the now-ruined castle and named it Katsuyama Castle. The third castle area belonging to the castle, the San-no-maru ( 三 ノ 丸 ), was laid out at the foot of the western mountain and surrounded by a stone wall. The simply designed residence was located there.
The inner castle, the Hommaru ( 本 丸 ), located on the mountain top , is now covered by the forest, but there are still remains of stone walls, ditches and remains of pre-fortifications. The second castle area, the Ni-no-maru ( 二 ノ 丸 ), became a sports field, the third castle area a residential area. Remains of the stone walls are preserved. The streets in front of it show the character of a planned castle town .
