The Pittersberg castle ruins are the ruins of a rock castle on an isolated rock cone on the south side of the Gailbergsattel in the northwest of the village of Laas in the market town of Kötschach-Mauthen .

history

The castle was documented in 1252 in the possession of the county of Gorizia . With the Peace of Pusarnitz , the castle came into the possession of the Habsburgs , who lent the complex to keepers. The castle was the seat of a regional court, but was already in ruins in the middle of the 17th century. Remains of a presumably Romanesque keep , parts of a kennel wall and a circular cistern are still present.
