history

The company was founded in 1959 by Ernst Burkhalter and four employees under the company of the same name, Ernst Burkhalter Ing. AG . The initially small and locally active electrical installation business grew in the three decades that followed into a group of companies operating across Switzerland. This was sold to Zellweger Luwa AG in 1987 .

In 1997, through an initial management buy-out , the electrical installation specialist area became independent again as Burkhalter Holding AG. In 2000 the shareholder structure was changed with a second management buy-out. Since then, just under 40 percent of the company has been owned by employees.

In November 2007, the company announced that it would thoroughly examine the option of an IPO . This is intended to secure the equity base for the long-term expansion of the position as an industry leader in Switzerland. At the same time, the company announced the resignation of the previous CEO Tarzisius Caviezel. Marco Syfrig became the new CEO on January 1, 2008. The IPO took place in mid-June 2008.
