The Fiat CANSA FC.12 was a single - engine low- wing aircraft manufactured by Cansa ( Costruzioni Aeronautiche Novaresi ) and developed for the Regia Aeronautica in the late 1930s. However, it did not get beyond the prototype stage.

history

The CANSA FC.12 was designed as a multi-purpose fighter aircraft , the developer, engineer Giacomo Mosso, based on the Fiat CR.32 and IMAM Ro.37 , which were successfully in use. The Italian Air Force ordered a prototype in 1939 , which cost 200,000 lire and was completed in 1940. The first test flights took place on October 16, 1940 at the Cameri military airfield . The test pilot Fausto Moroni criticized the poor flight characteristics of the aircraft. The CANSA FC.12 was equipped with an aerodynamic brake in order to test its use as a dive fighter aircraft . Due to the poor flight characteristics and inadequate armament, the Italian Air Force discontinued the project. From then on, the CANSA FC.12 was used as a trainer for dive pilots.

construction

The fuselage structure consisted of an aluminum tube construction, the wings were made of wood. A Fiat 30A engine with an output of 600 hp and a two-blade metal propeller was selected as the drive. The armament should consist of a 12.7 mm machine gun and four 50 kg bombs.
