CMF design

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CMF Design (acronym for Colori, Materiali, Finiture, Italian for colors, materials, surfaces) is a field of product design . The concept was conceived by the Italian designer Clino T. Castelli in the late 1970s. Special emphasis was placed on the visual and haptic appearance. In the past, the design of technical products was carried out by engineering departments that had a focus on technical design. In accordance with the CMF design, emphasis is placed on a brand-typical appearance and a mix of materials that the consumer can experience. Here, the manufacturer Lancia is considered a pioneer. According to the conception of Castelli, the color of the vehicles was combined with color-matched interiors in a high-quality design. This clearly set Lancia apart from other automobile manufacturers of the time. CMF design is now a common practice all over the world.
