The "Effingham carcass" from 1947, at times mistaken for a Cadborosaurus, was probably a rotting basking shark

Cadborosaurus willsi (also Caddy ) is a sea monster that is said to be found on the North American Pacific coast .

The creature has been known to local Indians for centuries under the name Hiachuckaluck . In addition, there are several hundred modern eyewitness reports, many of which have been collected and evaluated by the professor of oceanography Paul H. Le-Blond and colleagues since 1969.

The name Cadborosaurus is derived from Cadboro Bay near Victoria , British Columbia and the Greek sauros ("lizard") and was given in 1933 by Archie Wills, an editor of the Victoria Daily Times, after sailors over encountering a man more than 3 meters long snake-like monsters. The species name Cadborosaurus willsi was given by Le-Blond and the zoologist Eduard L. Bousfield, who interpreted the discovery of an approximately 3 m long creature in the stomach of a harpooned sperm whale from 1937 as a sea snake. Various other carcasses found on the Northwest American coast were also sometimes mistaken for remains of the Cadborosaurus.

Cadborosaurus is described as a sea snake up to 15 m long with a humpbacked body and a dog or horse-like head. The animal is also said to have a long neck and side fins, some descriptions also mention spikes on the tail. The high swimming speed of up to 40 knots is also noticeable .

It has been suggested that there might be a link between Cadborosaurus and the sea monsters reported in several Canadian lakes ( Ogopogo , Manipogo, and Igopogo ), all of which are described as similar.
