Caherminnaun ( Irish Cathair Mionáin ) is a townland (district) northeast of Kilfenora in the Burren in County Clare in Ireland . Various historical buildings can be found in the area. Caher is the Anglicized form of the Irish word " cathair " (which in some regions of the island means Dun or Steinfort).

Right next to Wedge Tomb Caherminnaun West are Dun Caherlahertagh, the sacred spring of Cameen (Tobercameen) and Kilcameen, the church of Cameen. The land survey of 1840 already mentions this place by Cill Caimin. At that time it was still unknown that there was once a church here. Instead, the place was considered a cillin , a burial place for unbaptized children.

Only ruins of Caherminnaun Castle have survived. According to the annals of the four masters , Teige MacMurrogh O'Brien, Lord of Caherminnaun, died here in 1591. Until 1580 he also owned the restored, imposing Tower House of Smithstown west of Kilfenora .

Etienne Rynne described local traditions in the North Munster Antiquarian Journal 13 (1970).
