Camp Tawiwa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Camp Tawiwa is a former missile test site in Libya near the city of Sabha , about 600 km south of Tripoli . The private German company OTRAG tested its suborbital OTRAG missiles there after the previous test site at Shaba North in Zaire was no longer available.

The first launch of an OTRAG rocket took place on March 3, 1981. Further launches of the OTRAG missiles were not published. OTRAG left the country at the end of 1982, and the remaining rockets were probably launched by the Libyan military until 1987.
