Cannabis hyperemesis syndrome

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome or cannabinoid -Hyperemesis syndrome is a condition called paradoxical reaction to cannabis by years of high under certain circumstances cannabis use could occur. Whether this is actually the case, however, is extremely controversial, not least due to the very low number of cases, lack of diagnostic criteria and the unpredictable honesty regarding possible cannabis use by patients.

Symptoms

The syndrome is said to be characterized by cyclical periods of nausea and vomiting , with symptoms typically being relieved by hot bathing or showering. This can only be found in a few press reports. The current study (2017) on the topic of cannabis and vomiting, which among other things deals with whether the cannabis hyperemesis syndrome actually exists at all, reports that of the examined patients with marijuana use and symptoms of vomiting, not a single one of the patients examined with hot bathing or vomiting Showers would combat.

Pathomechanism

The pathomechanism has not yet been clarified. The syndrome allegedly occurs as a result of years of daily, comparatively high cannabis use . However, the symptoms are practically identical to those of the much more common cyclic vomiting syndrome .

therapy

Symptomatic

In the hyperemetic phase, antiemetics are given, and sufficient fluid intake - if necessary with infusions - is ensured.

Causal

If the cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is actually caused by cannabis use, the recommendation is to reduce the likelihood of the syndrome recurring by completely avoiding cannabis.
