Canon Original RAW

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Canon Original Raw format is the Japanese company Canon developed file format to save a photo. It is based on RAW photography. The file format has the extension .crw, .cr2 or .cr3. In contrast to the JPEG format, which is also used as a standard by Canon, it is lossless .

Features and Benefits

The RAW format has the property of storing all kinds of ISO values, white balance and much more in one file in the image that was photographed. Depending on the resolution of the image, the size of a file varies between 20 and 40 MB. However, an unsuccessful picture is not yet lost, as it can be post-processed with an editing program such as Adobe Photoshop Lightroom or the in-house Canon Digital Photo Professional . In addition, the Canon Original RAW is completely lossless. This function is only supported by Canon EOS digital SLR cameras. Depending on the camera, the bit depth is up to 14 bits.

A (not necessarily identically structured) raw format is also available for cameras running the Canon Hack Development Kit .
