Cape Town International Jazz Festival

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival is a jazz festival . It was established as North Sea Jazz Cape Town .

The festival founded by Paul Acket has taken place in Cape Town , South Africa in March / April since 2000 and was initially considered a sister event to the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands .

In contrast to the Dutch festival, there is a requirement in Cape Town that half of all musicians should come from Africa and the other half should be created by musicians from the rest of the world.

The number of visitors rose from 14,000 visitors in the year it was founded to 30,000 visitors a year. About 30 bands took part in the 2004 festival and played on five stages over three days, including Al di Meola and Cassandra Wilson . In 2012, 40 bands could be heard over two days at the Cape Town International Convention Center .

Traditionally, there is a free concert in Green Market Square on the Thursday before the actual festival.
