Caprington Castle is a manor house near the Scottish town of Kilmarnock in the East Ayrshire council area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The nucleus of Caprington Castle was a defense tower, which may have been built in the 15th century and was integrated into the building. The mansion was built around 1820 for William Cuninghame, 4th Baronet . It is still owned by the Cunningham clan to this day .

description

Caprington Castle is on extensive grounds outside Kilmarnock on the opposite bank of the Irvine . The outbuildings include farm buildings, stables, and residential buildings. The manor house received its present appearance as part of the expansion around 1820. The central four-story tower dominates the east-facing front. The semi-octagonal tower is reinforced with cantilevered battlements and equipped with machiculi . Small, square towers rise from the edges of the building. Inside there are cross vaults and other Gothic details.
