The Carcoar Reservoir is a reservoir in the middle of the Australian state of New South Wales in the course of the Belubula River 6 km above the small town of Carcoar . It has a concrete arch wall with a free overflow, which is 57 m high and 187 m wide. At the highest water level, the volume of the reservoir is 35.8 million m³. The overflow is designed for a passage of 105 million m³ / d.
The water from the reservoir is drained directly into the Belubula River, where it is used to irrigate the land.
The dam is curved in both directions.
Wetlands
In the early 1990s, the New South Wales government promoted the creation of wetlands on the Carcoar Reservoir to reduce the blue-green algae that had made the lake unusable for recreational use. Even for the watering of domestic animals, the water of the dam could no longer be used because of the algae infestation. The wetlands were to serve as sink basins for nutrients before they reached the reservoir.
