The Carhart depression or Carhart depression (English Carhart's notch ), named after the otologist Raymond Carhart , describes a drop in the bone conduction curve in the tone audiogram at approx. 2000  Hz . The cause is the stiffening of the ossicular chain due to otosclerosis . The Carhart depression is caused by the resonance frequency of the eardrum / ossicular apparatus, which is 2 kHz, and regresses after a successful stapesplasty .
