Cariaco is a village and the administrative seat of the municipality of Ribero in the state of Sucre in Venezuela . The population is 22,262 (as of October 30, 2011).

history

The village was founded in the sixteenth century by Juan de Urpín. The settlement has been attacked several times by Caribbean Indians . Alexander von Humboldt visited the village in 1799.

In 1997 an earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale took place. 39 people died in the church.
