Life

Carles Batlle works as a dramaturge and lecturer in Barcelona . Since 2005 he has also directed the workshop of the Off Theater Sala Beckett , where many of his plays were premiered.

In his plays, Batlle deals with the socio-political contradictions of our present day: the superiority and insecurity of Western Europeans abroad, the civilizational reason that was undermined under civil war conditions, the irreversibility of emigration, etc. In doing so, Batlle develops dramatic structures that correspond to the complexity of modern experience of reality.

Pieces

Struggle. Landscape afterwards (Combat - Paisatge per a després d'una batalla)

A civil war somewhere in Europe. A woman loses her husband, her apartment, everything. She now lives in a poorly furnished attic room. A young soldier from the enemy camp, who meets the woman in a bar, goes to her before he has to go to the front. After him, other soldiers in his troop will climb the stairs to her, regularly. For the woman it is a liberation. When the siege is over and the victorious troops are marching through the streets, the young soldier comes back to her. But for the woman the story ends here; the point has been reached where their life has become meaningless.

Yambu (Les veus de Iambu)

Berta and Viktor go as individual tourists on their journey to the Orient. Berta has broken up her tents at home and is about to immerse herself fully in the rituals and stories of the local Tarquei. Viktor, on the other hand, vacillates between distrust and jealousy towards this mythical boy who wants to lead the two Europeans to the sources of the Yambu.

Yambu describes our search for metaphysical experiences and reveals the violence we are ready to use for this.

Oasis

Xavier returns to his childhood home in Spain, having emigrated to England ten years earlier. From his adoptive brother, Raixid, he learns that the family's old residence will fall victim to a newly built dam. He won't be able to do anything anymore, but there are a few things to clarify: the conflicted relationship with his adoptive brother, the relationship with his former love Maria, the coming to terms with his politically troubled youth. But things develop unexpectedly when Xavier discovers that Raixid is hiding two Tunisian immigrants from the police in their parents' house.

In Oase , Batlle addresses the downside of our growing society: speculation, the destruction of the landscape, political repression.

Temptation (temptació)

Hassan came to Spain illegally from North Africa to work and support his family. In Spain he asks Guillem, the son of a Catalan friend, for help. However, Guillem is pursuing his own interests. He has his services as an "employment agency" paid well by the illegal immigrants. Only the Moroccan housemaid Aixa, who also ran into Guillem while fleeing a forced marriage, enjoys a special status because Guillem has fallen in love with the young woman. What he doesn't know: Aixa is Hassan's daughter.
