Carmignac is a French investment management company founded in 1989 by Edouard Carmignac and Éric Helderlé. The company is fully owned by its employees and, according to its own statements, currently manages assets of around 35 billion euros.

history

The company was founded in 1989 by Edouard Carmignac and Éric Helderlé in Paris after Carmignac gained experience in the financial sector in New York. In 1999 the first foreign office was opened in Luxembourg . In 2008 further offices were opened in Madrid and Milan , followed by London (2012), which has been managed by Carmignac's daughter Maxime Carmignac since 2013, and Zurich (2015).

In 2000 the assets under management amounted to 1 billion euros. Seven years later that number had grown to around 13 billion euros. Carmignac Patrimoine, the company's main fund, was able to weather most of the 2008 financial crisis . This led to an increase in the fund volume in the following years and, according to estimates by the Financial Times , made it one of the largest funds in Europe.

Recent developments

In September 2018, Édouard Carmignac handed over the management of the Carmignac Investissement Fund to David Older and withdrew from the active day-to-day business of fund management.

Edouard Carmignac also announced that after 30 years the management of the flagship fund Carmignac Patrimoine will be handed over. Rose Ouahba and David Older followed Carmignac as dual heads of the fund. Edouard Carmignac will, however, retain his role as a member of the strategic investment committee and chief investment officer (CIO).

In April 2019, Marie-Anne Allier took over the co-management of the Carmignac Sécurité Fond. In the same year, three of the company's funds were certified with the French SRI label for sustainable investment instruments.

Managed Funds

Carmignac manages 21 investment strategies (as of 2019). These activities include the management of equity and fixed income.

In order to expand the company's European presence, a new “unconstrained” fund was launched in April 2019. In May, six more funds followed in Great Britain , based on the investment strategies in the French core market.

In June of the same year, the company launched two more funds, the Carmignac Portfolio Grandchildren Fund and the Carmignac Portfolio Family Governed Fund. These funds are aimed at long-term investment strategies for the financial security of children.
