The Sansom Islands ( Norwegian Knattskjera , rocky outcrop arches ) are two low rocky islands off the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . They are located 24 km west-northwest of Mount Caroline Mikkelsen in the Sandefjord Ice Bay .

Norwegian cartographers, who also named them descriptively, mapped them in 1946 using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen expedition in 1936/37 . A team from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) to explore the Prince Charles Mountains carried out geological surveys here between January and February 1969. The name given by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia is named after Julian R. Sansom, medical officer of an ANARE team that worked on the Amery Ice Shelf in 1968 .
