Carolinum (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carolinum with the subtitle "Historical-literary magazine" is published today on behalf of the school association "Carolinum" eV in cooperation with the old school students association of the Carolinum grammar school in Neustrelitz.

The magazine's No. 1 appeared in May 1935 under the title “Caroliner Zeitung” with the subtitle “Messages from the old students of the Carolinum zu Neustrelitz” . From No. 15 (September 1943) to No. 18 (June 1944) the subtitle was "Feldpostbriefe der Altschülerschaft des Carolinum zu Neustrelitz" . The first post-war edition (No. 19/20) was published in September 1956 by Gustav H. Piehler as a "Festschrift for the 150th anniversary of the Carolinum-Neustrelitz" (place of publication St. Peter / North Sea). From No. 21/22 (March 1957) the place of publication was Göttingen. From No. 23/24 (September 1957) the subtitle changed to “Blätter für Kultur und Heimat” . 1958 (from year 24, no. 27, winter half year 1958) the original magazine title "Caroliner Zeitung" was given up and replaced by "Das Carolinum" . From year 32, no. 45 (summer half year 1966) the title was only "Carolinum" . With the subtitle “Historical-literary magazine” , the paper appeared for the first time in the winter of 1967/68 (year 33, no. 48).

As a newsletter for the old school students at the traditional Neustrelitz grammar school, which had been reorganized in West Germany in the 1950s, the Carolinum magazine, with its very high-quality articles at the time of the division of Germany, was one of the most important periodical publications on the history and culture of Southeast Mecklenburg, in particular the former region and Free State of Mecklenburg-Strelitz . The distribution of the magazine was then limited to the "Exile Mecklenburgers", a reference in this region was almost impossible. At the same time, the Neustrelitz local history researcher Annalize Wagner was one of the regular authors of this magazine.

In the meantime, the magazine Carolinum has changed its profile to the student magazine of the Neustrelitz grammar school. While current topics of everyday school life form the main focus, cultural-historical topics are only sporadically today.
