Casa del Fascio

The Casa del Fascio (Italian: [kaːza del faʃʃo], also Palazzo Terragni ) in Como , northern Italy, is the work of the Italian architect Giuseppe Terragni . It is considered a key work of Italian modernism, of Razionalismo .

The building was started in 1932 and completed in 1936 as the Casa del Fascio , the seat of the local branch of the National Fascist Party of Mussolini . The building, clad in white marble , was developed in the dimensions of a classic palazzo around a glass atrium . It served to a large extent for the party's self-portrayal and was designed as an elegant and modern “stage” for the party's mass rallies on the Piazza del Popolo. The large open space on the facade was also intended to be used for the presentation of large propaganda posters.

Since 1957, the building has housed the provincial headquarters of the Guardia di Finanza police and the small historical museum of the 6th Legion of the Guardia di Finanza.

A wall fresco by Mario Radice and the original interior have been lost.
