Isomira murina is a beetle from the family of the black beetle (Tenebrionidae) within the subfamily of the plant beetles (Alleculinae). The species is widespread in Europe.
features
The beetles are 5.5–7.2 millimeters long. They have an elongated oval black body. Their coloring is very variable. The head and pronotum are dark brown to black, while the elytra are black or red-brown in color. The head has a coarser puncture than the pronotum. The antennae , mouthparts and legs are light brown.
Occurrence and way of life
The species is widespread in Europe, but is absent in the north. To the east, their occurrence extends to Western Siberia. Isomira murina occurs in the lowlands and at low altitudes. The species prefers open biotopes with shrub vegetation in dry and warm locations. Isomira murina has a two year development cycle . The larvae develop in the soil and feed on the roots of grasses, herbaceous plants and perennials. The beetles fly between May and August. You can often see them on flowering shrubs and umbelliferous plants.
