Castillo de Madrona
Castillo de Madrona is a medieval castle on a hill in the Spanish city of Madrona , in the municipality of Pinell in the Solsonés ( Lérida ) region. The ruins are on the summit (550 meters above sea level) of the western foothills of the Sierra de Madrona. Next to the castle , the Romanesque church of San Pedro de Madrona was also built, which has also fallen apart. On May 5, 1949, the entire remains of the castle and the Romanesque church were declared a historical monument.
The first documentary mention can be found in a document from the year 1053. In a second document from January 21, 1073, the Count of Urgel donates an estate that is located within the castle grounds . In the eighteenth century a new church was built nearby, in which the fragmented three-part Baroque altar was rebuilt.
