Castle Story is a voxel-based real-time strategy game that was developed and distributed by the Canadian development studio Sauropod Studio.

Game principle and technology

In Castle Story , the player has control over workers called "Bricktrons". You collect resources, build castles and fight enemies for him. The goal is to build a castle that can withstand all attacks from creatures and opponents. The setting are large flying islands. The game engine Unity includes a physics engine that enables completely animated destruction.

Development and release history

In December 2011, Sauropod Studio released an eleven minute demonstration video. The video shows the basic game engine behind the game and the yellow "Bricktrons" when dismantling and building castles. At the end of the video, the destruction of a castle is shown. In January 2012, a game demo of Castle Story was shown at IGDA Montréal DemoNight .

In July 2012, Sauropod began to raise money for the further development of Castle Story with the help of a crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter platform . The goal of $ 80,000 was achieved within the first five hours. Ultimately, Sauropod Studio was able to raise $ 702,516 on Kickstarter, beating the actual target by nearly 900%.

The prototype was released in October 2012. It only contained the basic game mechanics, which, according to the developer, still contained some bugs. In September 2013, the game was released as an early access version on Steam . It was pretty quiet for a while after that. Version 0.8 was published in December 2016, and the final version followed in August 2017.
