Cavallo (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cavallo was a measure of firewood in Cattaro, now Kotor , a port city at the southeast end of the Bay of Kotor ( Adriatic Sea ) in Montenegro . Another name for the so-called horse load, the load of a horse, was the chariche . The wood was also sold according to Burden or Fasci . 14 horse load or 28 burdens corresponded to a Viennese fathom , than about 3.4 cubic meters . In Sign , 20 loads and in Imotski 23 loads were calculated on one fathom.

The size of the burden is given as the amount of wood a woman could carry. Men did not carry wood out of shame.
