The music publishing house Cedarwood Music Publishing was founded in 1953 in Nashville by country musician Webb Pierce and the Grand Ole Opry manager Jim Denny founded. The catalog only included titles from the country music genre .

Thanks to Denny's excellent relationships, who was responsible for selecting the performers at the Opry, Acuff-Rose was soon replaced as the leading Nashville music publisher. Above all, the hiring of Mel Tillis in 1957 contributed to this success. Other well-known songwriters were Cindy Walker , Danny Dill and John D. Loudermilk .

After Denny's death in 1963, his son Bill Denny took over the management. Webb Pierce retired from business and focused on managing his radio stations. In 1989, Cedarwood was bought by Polygram .
