The Centro Nacional de Inteligencia (CNI; German National Intelligence Center ) is the Spanish secret service that was established by law in November 2002. Previously, the unit was known as the Centro Superior de Información de la Defensa (CESID).

The main goal of the CNI is to provide the government with the necessary information to ward off risks and threats to the independence or integrity of Spain. National interests and the stability of the rule of law are just as important .

It is stipulated by law that the objectives are determined annually and reviewed by the Council of Ministers . These are then recorded in writing in the secret information directive.

Apart from this control body, there is also judicial control. The activities of the CNI are checked by a judge appointed by the Consejo General del Poder Judicial (this is occupied by the President of the Constitutional Court, Tribunal Supremo (TS) ).
