cfdisk is a partitioning program for the Linux operating system with menu-driven operation that was developed with curses . It belongs to the Linux package util-linux .

The current implementation of cfdisk is based on the libfdisk program library. The preferred choice of curses implementation during compilation is slcurses and alternatively ncurses .

Since version 2.25, cfdisk has supported disk labels from Master Boot Records , GUID Partition Table , BSD disklabels , SGI and SUN. It also provides information about the contents of the partitions.

Differentiation from similar programs

Both cfdisk and the two Linux programs fdisk and sfdisk use the software library libfdisk.

Comparison of the programs cfdisk, fdisk and sfdisk
program description
cfdisk Does not have the functionality of fdisk and sfdisk, but is sufficient for all normal partitioning tasks and does some of these in a standard-compliant manner as fdisk.
fdisk The traditional partitioning program. It has a somewhat larger range of functions than cfdisk and can be used both with a complex call in which numerous parameters are passed and in an interactive mode.

It is more difficult to use for beginners than to use cfdisk.

sfdisk The program is aimed at advanced administrators and is primarily designed for batch operation, that is, to be called in scripts or by other programs.

Program call
