Champagne lid collection

The champagne lid ( French capsule de champagne , French plaque de muselet ) is a small metal lid for sparkling wine bottles , which is located between the champagne cork and agraffe (wire basket). On the one hand, it keeps the wire mesh on the cork in shape, and on the other hand, it prevents the top of the cork from tearing due to the pressure of the agraffe wires. With a print, this badge also serves as an advertising medium.

Champagne lids are also collectibles; old specimens are particularly popular. The technical term used by the largest collectors' community for this field of collection is placomusophilia .
